Every parent knows - Life happens way too fast. We only get one childhood. Making exercise a part of our daily family time helps us all to enjoy long, healthy lives.

Exercise has a positive effect on emotional well-being. Children who are depressed or having emotional problems benefit from increased levels of physical activity.

There are many opportunities for good moral development through sport and physical activity, especially when these opportunities are provided under adult guidance and structured to support positive growth and avoid the potential negative impact of anti-social behaviors

Sports can be a great avenue for developing more mature moral reasoning skills that are characterized by more assertion and less aggression, and more compliance with rules and fair play. We learn excellent lessons - about sports and life - when we participate in any sport! Encourage your children to Get out and Play!

Most children are healthiest and happiest when they have a sense of optimism and self control. Sports and physical activity enhance positive feelings about oneself - at any age!

Just a few of the many benefits of exercise:

Encourage your children to eat healthy and drink six or eight glasses of water each day. Teach them to drink less soda and more water. You'll save money at the dentist's office and drinking more water is good for your whole body!

Do you keep a day-planner? Write down some time for exercise or physical activity in your family goals. Keep track of your activities together. Write down how much time you spend doing physical activity. And what kinds of food you ate together.

Set realistic goals for your family time. Can you skip Monday night football to enjoy some time reading with your children. You won't miss much - and the benefits will last longer after that football game is forgotten.

Teach your children to eat right! Listen to the nutrition experts and try to consume several different vegetables every day. A serving of sliced apples or even applesauce is a healthy treat any time! Healthy eating habits are important to your child's health.

Make it a habit to include fruits, berries, and vegetables of various colors in your family's diet. Blueberry pancakes are sure to boost their morning learning power. Many children love strawberries and watermelon. Or any type of melon for that matter. Toss a banana in their lunch box. Or a little box of raisins!

Or let them help make a meal. They will enjoy the time spent with you and be more willing to eat a meal they helped prepare. How much can your family save if you eat out a little less and make more of your meals at home? Our single pizza on a recent pizza night cost just under $15. We could easily prepare a similar pizza - with more toppings - for less money. How to make a pizza

Take advantage of physical activities you and your children can enjoy together. Riding bikes, Take a walk. Play some tennis or golf.  Teach them to be adventurous — try new sports, games and other  physical activities. How about soccer or baseball? Both can be great exercise and lead to life long friendships.

Are you spending enough time with your children? I know I'm not. Childhood passes so quickly - don't we owe our children ( and ourselves ) the gift of time? At least a few minutes each day? Many a parenting expert has suggested that to a child love is frequently spelled "t-i-m-e". Time spent with our children and loved ones is the  best, and most memorable time of our lives.
